If you are interested, below are some links that will educate you on the current restrictions and the trend to make recording movies difficult. Many of us believe eventually Hollywood will pretty well disable our ability to record their content. But alas, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act(with a lot of pressure/lobbyists from the Hollywood studios) has changed all of that and the newer technologies(like HDMI cables that have "built-in" copy protection know as HDCP) is making it more and more difficult to make copies of any video material. And for many years(since the infamous Supreme Court Betamax ruling) we considered it our "right" to make personal copies. Seriously, though, I too have amassed a personal movie library of over 2,000 movies(first on VHS and now on DVD's, probably just like you). Another TN "hillbilly" here that don't understand what all the ruckus is about and why the Hollywood studios are being so mean after we all got them so rich.
